Amazon wants police offers to have a tiny ‘assistant drone’ on their shoulder: Trevor Mogg at Digital Trends reports that Amazon has recently been awarded a patent to utilise its UAV technology in other ways. Described as an “unmanned aerial vehicle assistant,” the miniature quadcopter dreamed up by Amazon engineers would sit on the shoulders of law enforcers until called into action. Has the weak pound forced you to raise prices? Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports on an analysis of 400,000 price movements by electrical comparison website Kagoo between July and October 2016. Thousands of electrical products have gone up in price in the last four months since the Brexit referendum result on 23 June. During this time, the proportion of price increases doubled from 16.5% in June to 31.6% four months later, indicating that retailers are forced to adjust their prices upwards. Continue reading…

One of Amazon’s earliest investors just made a $30 million bet on Hollar, the online dollar store: Biz Carson at Business Insider UK reports on David Yeom, who made a big bet that the dollar store experience that he loved could work online too. It sounded like a bad business idea at the time but Yeom has proved the doubters wrong so far. Black Friday 2016: Amazon’s Deals Store puts Kindle Voyage, Roku streaming stick and more on sale: Vincent Lanaria at TechTimes reports that Amazon is getting into the spirit of Black Friday 2016 early this November by launching the Deals Store to put a slew of products up on sale, ranging from the Kindle Voyage to Garmin wearables. Amazon says there are going to be new deals “as often as every five minutes”.
