5 Tips for Using Amazon Seller Central

Amazon Seller Central

No matter if you’re already established on Amazon or just starting to sell online, RepricerExpress has these five great tips for you to use to get yourself even further ahead. Knowing the system you’re using inside and out is key to making it work for you as best and most efficiently as possible.

Tip 1: Knowing How Amazon’s Search Algorithm Works

Every search engine has its own algorithm. And every search engine usually tweaks their algorithm in different ways. Knowing how Amazon’s works, especially in comparison to Google’s, will help you get ahead. Amazon uses the A9 algorithm, which means these are the most important things to focus on:

  • How closely matched a search term is to the product title and description. A good product title will be reflected in the description, and vice-versa.
  • How pleased customers are with you. Build up those positive reviews and bump yourself to the front of the line.
  • How well something can convert into a sale, which encompasses things like competitive pricing, positive reviews and average customer rating.

Tip 2: Get Your Relevance as Optimised as Possible

Amazon allows you 80 characters in the title, and you’ll want to use just as many as it takes to get the perfect title. Keyword stuffing is frowned down upon, but you’ll want to ensure you’ve got as many keywords as possible to most accurately convey to buyers what it is you’re selling.

You’ll also want to list the product features in easy-to-read bullet points. Again, use relevant keywords here, but expand on them slightly so they’re reader-friendly. You’ll get a little more room to write when it comes to your product specs (list all the ones provided by the manufacturer) and description, and especially in the search terms, where you’re allowed up to 250 characters.

Tip 3: Know What Kind of Seller You Are

Amazon charges monthly fees to sell on its platform. If you’re a small seller (i.e. fewer than 40 items a month), then it’s no sense paying $39.99/month for a Professional account. Likewise, stick with one Seller Central account unless you’re planning on selling to different continents or regions. Amazon’s unified accounts for North America (Canada, U.S., Mexico) and Europe (UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain), but you will need to set up individual accounts if you plan on selling in places like India or Japan.

Tip 4: Have All Your Business Info Ready to Go

There are several pieces of information you’ll need when it comes to first selling online.

  • Business name
  • Real name and registered business address (if you have the latter; if not, your actual address)
  • Contact information for Amazon and for your buyers — it’s recommended to keep them separate
  • Your ‘Shop From’ location
  • A valid bank account so you can receive payments
  • Setting up two-step authentication for extra security
  • An awesome repricer so you can hit the ground running when it comes to sales (this isn’t mandatory, but we couldn’t resist giving you an early head’s up about RepricerExpress)

Tip 5: Always Review the Little Things

Last but not least, it’s an excellent idea to make the little things some of the most important things. This includes:

  • Hi-res photos that can be zoomed in on easily (it’s also a good idea to show items how they’d be used in real life so buyers can easily imagine themselves in those scenarios)
  • Competitive pricing that does not result in a race to the bottom
  • Focusing on attaining as many 5-star reviews as possible, with the 4-star level your ‘basement’
  • Keeping a high sales rank that’s consistent over time and doesn’t wildly spike around too much

It can be all too easy to lapse into bad habits if you’ve gotten comfortable with selling on Amazon, so use this as a chance to review your practices. And if you’re just starting out, then start out on the best foot possible. The more things you do right from the beginning, the more they’ll cement into excellent habits down the road. And one of those things includes using RepricerExpress. When you sign up right now, you’ll start things off right with the first 15 days totally free.
