Amazon’s newest bricks and mortar store opens in New York: BBC News reports that despite Amazon’s success in the digital world’s market, it is rare to see them within a bricks and mortar building. However, the company opened its seventh US bookshop in New York last week. Amazon’s drive-up grocery stores are now open to the public in Seattle: Chris Welch at The Verge reports that Amazon has opened two drive-up grocery stores to the public after testing the locations first with its own employees. Both are in the Seattle area and allow Amazon Prime subscribers to place an online order and choose a two-hour pickup window for when they’d like to drive over and retrieve it. Continue reading…

Amazon patents a parachute shipping label for drone deliveries: Amar Toor at The Verge reports that Amazon has received a patent for a shipping label that includes a built-in parachute, “to enable the delivery of packages by [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][unpiloted] aerial vehicles (UAVs) or other aerial vehicles.” The patent, as reported by GeekWire, was filed in August 2015 and granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on Monday. Amazon’s share price reaches an all-time: Dan Wilson at Tamebay reports Amazon‘s stock price has reached an all-time high last week with shares touching $999 before falling back before the end of trading. Can Wal-mart’s expensive new ecommerce operation compete with Amazon? Bloomberg reports that last summer, Marc Lore, founder and CEO of Jet.com, sat down to record a private video for Wal-mart’s top officials. In the 40-minute presentation doesn’t hold back about the threat posed by Amazon. “AMAZON IS DOMINATING” reads a slide on a large screen behind him. In the video, Lore presents a plan to bet Wal-mart’s future not on ecommerce standbys such as books, electronics, and toys, but on product areas only now becoming popular online, including apparel, fresh food, and “everyday essentials” like drugstore items.
