Amazon raises wages for lower-paid workers: Rebecca Marston at BBC News reports that online retailing giant Amazon is raising pay for hundreds of thousands of workers in the US and the UK. Amazon’s lowest paid US workers will receive $15 an hour. In the UK, pay will rise from £8.20 an hour in London to £10.50, while outside London the rate rises from £8 an hour to £9.50. The move will benefit 250,000 workers in the US, 17,000 in the UK and tens of thousands of seasonal workers. Amazon is one of the biggest companies in the world, worth about $1 trillion. Amazon eliminates bonuses and stock awards for hourly workers: Tami Lundy at CNN Business reports that Amazon announced on Tuesday that it will raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour for all US employees. But tucked away in the announcement was the fact that Amazon will phase out its bonus and stock award programs for its hourly workers. The change was first reported by Bloomberg. Amazon maintains that workers will make more money under the new system. All hourly workers will get a bump in pay, even if they are already making $15 an hour. Continue reading…

According to the latest Best Global Brands report by Interbrand, Apple is still the most valuable brand in the world with an estimated value of $214.5 billion. Aside from this, one of the standout brands this year is Amazon, having experienced a huge 56% increase in value when compared to 2017.

eBay accuses Amazon in merchant ‘poaching’ row: BBC News reports that eBay has accused Amazon of using an “unlawful” scheme to tempt sellers on its auction site to move to the online retailer. In a cease and desist letter, eBay alleged that Amazon had used its internal messaging system to repeatedly contact traders and warned that it would take “appropriate steps” to protect itself from the tactic. Amazon quietly ended its Instant Pickup offering: Dennis Green at Business Insider UK reports that a year ago, Amazon debuted a new way to pick up items within minutes of ordering them, calling it Instant Pickup. The service was designed for impulse, need-it-now purchases. Customers could order items like snacks, drinks, and basic essentials from the Amazon app and use a barcode to access their purchase at designated pickup locations.  However, a company spokesperson has confirmed that Amazon has pulled the plug on the service but did not specify when the service ended.
