Amazon patent for road guidance system points to automated vehicle plans: Alan Ohnsman at Forbes reports that Amazon has been granted a patent for communications between autonomous vehicles and roadway management systems. The patent contains no information about what Amazon’s plans may be, but given that the company already operates a dedicated fleet of semi-trucks hauling goods to and from its distribution centres as well as panel delivery trucks, a move into autonomous driving seems inevitable. Spoof email aimed at Amazon Sellers is doing the rounds: Dan Wilson at Tamebay warns sellers about a spoof phishing email that targets Amazon sellers directly. Here’s the title and the start of the text: “Seller Communication Centre – Changes Notice. Alibaba forms anti-counterfeiting alliance with Louis Vuitton, Swarovski and others: Amanda Kaiser at WWD reports that Alibaba is forming a 20 member alliance of companies to fight the sale of counterfeit products dubbed the “Alibaba Big Data Anti-counterfeiting Alliance”. Alibaba, which has been criticised for the prevalence of fake products on its platforms, said the new group will “foster industry collaboration and promote the use of big data and technology in the global fight against counterfeits”.
