Amazon snaps up Bake Off sponsorship in biggest UK TV deal: Mark Sweney at The Guardian reports that Amazon is seeking to cash in on the success of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 by signing up as headline sponsor of the second series. Amazon is thought to have paid about £5m to secure the deal, making Bake Off one of the most valuable entertainment sponsorships in the UK, alongside Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, after the show’s move from the BBC defied critics by proving to be Channel 4’s biggest hit in decades. Amazon shares fall wiping more than $30bn off value after report claims Trump wants to ‘go after’ tech giant: Steve Holland at The Independent reports that Amazon shares fell almost 5 percent on Wednesday, wiping more than $30bn (£21.4bn) off its market value. It came after news website Axios reported that US President Donald Trump is obsessed with the world’s largest online retailer and wants to rein in its growing power. US votes Amazon number one for customer satisfaction: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that for the third year in a row, customers voted Amazon top in Harris Poll’s annual corporate reputation survey. Over 25,000 U.S. adults were surveyed by Harris Poll between 11 December 2017 and 12 January 2018. Amazon has been in the top ten for the past ten years and number one for four of the last five years. Amazon also recently topped the ACSI Retail Report in the Internet Retail category for the eighth year in a row. Dutch ecommerce could grow to €24.95 billion in 2018: Ecommerce News reports that ecommerce in the Netherlands was worth 22.5 billion euros last year and could be worth almost 25 billion euros at the end of this year. This would mean an increase of almost 11 percent. This growth rate is somewhat lower than in 2017 when the Dutch ecommerce turnover increased by 13 percent. Continue reading…
