Have you updated your eBay listings yet? It’s been on the cards for a while but eBay’s Product Identifier is now mandatory for all products. This means you now won’t be able to list products in certain categories without adding the necessary details. Product Identifiers include a GTIN (EAN, UPC, ISBN), Brand and Manufacturer’s part number (MPN). You may have already noticed some of Good Till Cancelled (GTC) listings have failed to renew if you haven’t updated them.
Be careful with the Does Not Apply option
Some sellers are using the “Does Not Apply” option and applying this to all their listings. Whilst time is an issue, we do not recommend this strategy for any serious sellers and this strategy is likely to hurt you in the long run.
eBay is making you add catalogue information so they can compare products better in search results. If yours is blank, eBay is more likely to exclude it from search results.
Google has also started to insist on at least a GTNI for products to be included in their product feeds. So without the required information, eBay can’t upload your products to Google.
We advise you to keep a close eye on your listings this week for any that don’t renew due to a missing Product Identifier. You should run your report to make sure you no listings have mysteriously added themselves to the list of those needing Product Identifiers adding.
