Jeff Bezos’ open letter to Amazon shareholders: Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, recently published an open letter to shareholders about the company’s 2015 performance and you can now read it online. He considers Amazon’s three great recent successes to be Amazon Prime, Amazon Web Services and the Amazon Marketplace. The letter starts by informing us that Amazon has “became the fastest company ever to reach $100 billion in annual sales” with “Amazon Web Services reaching $10 billion in annual sales” at a pace even faster than Amazon achieved that milestone.
Amazon Kindle Oasis, does the world want a £270 e-reader? Rory Cellan-Jones at BBC News reports on the Amazon Kindle Oasis, priced at a rather steep £269.99, or £329.99 if you want to purchase the version with a built-in 3G connection. The Kindle is described as “a thing of beauty” — slim and light, with a bright, very readable screen. Amazon’s vice-president for industrial design, Chris Green, explains that the gold standard is paper, and that the Oasis takes the company another step towards that. Continue reading…
BBC would put brakes on us using “gear” for Amazon show: Media Monkey via The Guardian reports that Jeremy Clarkson, former Top Gear presenter, has revealed that the BBC would prevent the use of the word “gear” in his yet untitled Amazon Prime show due for release this autumn. Alibaba buys control of Lazada in $1 billion bet on SE Asia ecommerce: Paul Carsten and Rama Venkat Raman at Reuters reports that Alibaba Group Holding Ltd has agreed to buy a controlling stake in South-East Asian online retailer Lazada Group for about $1 billion. Lazada, was founded in 2012, is head-quartered in Singapore and also operates in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Continue reading…
Ecommerce in the Netherlands expected to reach €18bn in 2016: Ecommerce News reports that B2C Ecommerce sales in the Netherlands are expected to reach 18 billion euros in 2016. The ecommerce industry was worth slightly more than 16 billion euros last year, but according to the Ecommerce Foundation the online retail industry is expected to increase by 12.1 percent and thus reach 18.014 billion euros.
