Bezos defends Amazon culture in letter to shareholders: Kieran McCarthy at The Register reports on Amazon’s Jeff Bezos’ open letter to shareholders defending the ecommerce giant’s culture. Jeff appears to be still reeling from a damning report in The New York Times last year, which revealed harsh internal evaluations and a culture of pressured over-working. In the letter, Bezos stated corporate culture “is created slowly over time by the people and by events–by the stories of past success and failure that become a deep part of the company lore.” Continue reading…

Amazon expands same-day Prime delivery in 11 new regions: Rich McCormick at The Verge reports that Amazon has expanded its free same-day delivery service to 11 more metropolitan areas, bringing the total number of US regions served by the Prime feature to 27. Prime customers in Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Nashville, Tucson, among others, will now be able to get free same-day delivery on eligible purchases. Continue reading…

Amazon takes on PayPal with new payments programme: Leena Rao at Fortune reports that Amazon is working with ecommerce software companies to expand its payments service. Amazon’s Pay With Amazon is a way for the site’s 304 million account holders to shop with third-party merchants using their Amazon credit cards and shipping details. Top shelf Kindle coming soon, Amazon’s Bezos teases: Ben Fox Rubin at CNET reports that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has revealed via his Twitter account that a new Kindle, which will be the 8th Generation is “almost ready”. eBay seller release—New mobile friendly item description summaries: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that eBay are announcing in their Spring Seller Release that from July this year eBay will add description summaries that will complement your current descriptions and will only appear on the eBay mobile site and app. These summaries contain the relevant information for mobile shoppers and are optimised to help surface your listings in search engines. Continue reading…

eBay seller release—JavaScript and Flash banned by 2017: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that from early 2017 eBay will be limiting the use of active content such as JavaScript and Flash in item descriptions. eBay states, “The use of active content in listings, including JavaScript, Flash and form actions can inhibit purchases on mobile devices and can lead to abuse in the marketplace. From spring 2017, we’ll limit the use of active content in all new listings across all devices and it will not appear by default. Later in 2017, we plan to remove or block listings with active content. We encourage you to limit your use of active content now.” Continue reading…
