Amazon launches free triple-A game engine: James Vincent at The Verge reports Amazon has launched Lumberyard, a new game engine that is free to download and use. Amazon says the software is capable of building triple-A games for PCs, consoles, mobile devices, and even VR platforms. Amazon says it will make its money back by selling various additional web services to developers. The engine is “deeply integrated” with both Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing platform, and Twitch, the video streaming site it bought for $970 million in 2014. Continue reading…

Amazon Logistics Project Dragon Boat: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that Amazon is building a global fulfilment network to grow its Amazon Logistics delivery business according to a report by Bloomberg. An internal report code named ‘Dragon Boat’ envisaged a flow of goods from manufacturers in China and India through Amazon Logistics shipping, arriving at local Amazon warehouse in the west and then with Fulfilment by Amazon being sold and sent out with Amazon’s local couriers to the end customer. Continue reading…

Amazon’s Super Bowl ad didn’t show you this extra Easter egg: Samantha Murphy Kelly at Mashable reports that Amazon aired its first-ever Super Bowl commercial on Sunday night to shine the spotlight on its Amazon Echo, a part-speaker, part-smart-home gadget. When actor Alec Baldwin asks voice assistant Alexa how many championships Dan Marino has won, she responds with “zero.” But if you ask Alexa the same question via an Amazon Echo in real life, you’ll get a playful clarification from Dan Marino himself. Amazon is renewing Mozart in the Jungle for a third season: Jamieson Cox at The Verge reports that Mozart in the Jungle, probably Amazon’s highest-profile comedy alongside Transparent, will be renewed for a third season.
