UK Amazon seller raided by the FBI for price fixing: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that a British Amazon seller faces possible extradition to the States following FBI led raids on his UK premises last month. The allegation is that the company director “and his co-conspirators fixed the price of certain posters sold online through Amazon”. This is a reminder to UK sellers are not immune to US law. The seller is charged with price fixing, a violation of the Sherman Act, which carries a maximum sentence for individuals of 10 years and a fine of $1 million. Continue reading…
Amazon exec, our drones will deliver in 30 minutes or less: Katie Collins at CNET reports on an interview with Amazon’s vice president of global public policy, Paul Misener, who revealed Amazon drones will deliver packages in 30 minutes or less. Misener stated, “The goals we’ve set for ourselves are: The range has to be over 10 miles. These things will weigh about 55 pounds each, but they’ll be able to deliver parcels that weigh up to 5 pounds.” Continue reading…
Amazon interest in Ocado takeover rumour: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that Amazon is reportedly targeting a takeover of Ocado resulting in the company’s share price rocketing. Ocado is an online supermarket delivery company which trades in partnership with John Lewis’ Waitrose. The deal would make a lot of sense for Amazon as it would be substantially cheaper to rebrand Ocado and take over their customers, warehouses and fleet, than set up a rival operation from scratch. Amazon’s clothing selection is now bigger than 250 Walmart supercenters combined: Jason Del Rey at re/code reports that when you think about shopping on Amazon, you probably don’t think about clothing. Amazon is trying to change that. The number of items listed on Amazon in apparel and accessories categories has soared 91 percent over the last year to 30 million items as of the 2015 holiday season, according to analysts at the investment bank R.W. Baird. That’s the equivalent of the total number of items sold in around 250 Walmart supercenters combined and a bigger selection than Amazon’s electronics catalogue. Continue reading…
