Amazon added 500,000 items to Prime in six months by changing one key policy: Jason Del Rey at re/code reports that Amazon is making a change to its core shopping business aimed at making its Prime membership program more attractive. The recent change to a key seller policy has added 500,000 items to the catalogue of products eligible for Prime two-day shipping in just six months. Under the Amazon Seller Fulfilled Prime program, eligible sellers will be able to send Prime products directly to customers. Continue reading…

Did Amazon scare Sainsbury’s into a desperate Argos bid? Simon Neville at The Independent reports that as Amazon is set to join the grocery home delivery market, Sainsbury’s is reportedly “desperate” to acquire Argos. Sainsbury’s has fallen behind the likes of Tesco when it comes to online operations, with the company still using individual store workers to pick up items on customers’ shopping lists. Argos, meanwhile, has invested millions in its new hub-and-spoke distribution network, which allows for same-day collection and delivery on 20,000 products. Continue reading…

Amazon Prime Video’s Christmas viewing doubles in 2015: Digital TV Europe reports that Amazon Prime members doubled their total viewing hours of Prime Video titles over the Christmas season compared to 2014. Amazon said that its original series, The Man in the High Castle, is the “most watched TV season ever on Prime Video”. Amazon claims the series was the most watched TV season on Prime Video this holiday season by a factor of 4.5, whilst a “record number” of movies were also watched on Prime Video in 2015. Amazon starts offering loans to customers with pay monthly option: Graham Ruddick at The Guardian reports that Amazon has started offering loans to customers buying products off its website in a move that could shake up the UK furniture and electricals market. Amazon Pay Monthly, offers customers an option to pay monthly on orders of more than £400 on selected products. The loan can be spread over two, three or four years depending on the size of the purchase. Continue reading…
