Amazon uses shock tactic to stop thefts at warehouses: BBC News reports that according to a report by Bloomberg, Amazon has allegedly started screening video clips to current employees showing how those accused of stealing were caught and fired. Bloomberg says the alleged offenders are represented by silhouettes with the words “arrested” and “terminated” superimposed. Many experts were surprised by the severity of this measure. Amazon to create 1,000 jobs in Manchester at new fulfilment centre: Sarah Butler at The Guardian reports that Amazon is to creating 1,000 new jobs in Manchester over the next three years by opening a new fulfilment centre, the first in the north-west region. The centre will join Amazon’s 10 fulfilment centres in the UK, including two in Doncaster and one each in Dunfermline, Dunstable, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay. Two of these centres opened in 2015. The move is part of Amazon’s plan to expand across the UK this year, creating 2,500 permanent jobs. Continue reading…
Amazon makes U-turn over Fire tablet encryption: Leo Kelion at BBC News reports that Amazon has pledged to restore disk encryption security protection to its mobile operating system. The firm had faced criticism after it emerged that the feature had been dropped in a recent update to Fire OS. Amazon had justified the move by saying that “customers weren’t using” the privacy facility. It now intends to reintroduce it before the end of May. Disk encryption has become a topical issue as it lies at the heart of a clash between Apple and the FBI. The facility digitally scrambles data on a device, making it impossible to make sense of it unless a passcode or other ID check is provided. Continue reading…
Product Identifiers are now mandatory on eBay: Chris Dunne at SellerExpress reports that eBay’s Product Identifier requirement is now live, and means that you may find ‘Good til Cancelled listings’ are failing to renew if you’ve not already updated them. You also won’t be able to list new products without adding the required details and eBay have created a list of impacted categories. Product Identifiers may include a GTIN (EAN, UPC, ISBN), Brand and Manufacturer’s part number (MPN).Continue reading…
