Amazon offering video game discount to US Prime members: Rhiannon Williams at The Telegraph reports that Amazon Prime customers will get 20% off pre-ordered games, for up to two weeks after their release dates, with trial users also eligible for the discount. Currently, the offer is only available to Amazon US Prime members but it’s likely to hit the UK in the near future. Amazon Prime, currently priced at £79 a year, offers members access to free one-day delivery, Prime Instant Video, Prime Music, unlimited online photo storage and Kindle ebooks to borrow. Amazon Premium Shipping service: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that sharp-eyed Amazon sellers have spotted a new shipping service in Seller Central, Amazon Premium Shipping. Amazon say that their Premium Shipping option provides fast and traceable shipping options and improves the customer experience by communicating a clear delivery date to the customer. At the 2016 Golden Globes, Amazon wins Best TV Comedy, but Netflix goes home empty-handed: Hayley C. Cuccinello at Forbes reports that Amazon won two of its five nominations in this year’s Golden Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais. Amazon faired considerably better than Netflix who surprisingly lost in all nine categories for which they were considered. The strength of Amazon and Netflix as original content contenders was notable in the category of Best Television Series – Musical of Comedy, where Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle won the award. Amazon will show President Obama’s final State of the Union on demand: Rich McCormick at The Verge reports that Amazon is partnering with the White House to make Barack Obama’s upcoming State of the Union address viewable on demand. This is the first time the annual events have been put on an on-demand video service. In competition with Netflix and other streaming services, Amazon has followed their lead in producing its own shows, but the decision to take on the president’s address shows that Amazon is looking at public service as a new way to expand.
