Sellers are vital to Amazon Prime Day: Ina Steiner at eCommerceBytes reports that sellers are looking forward to Amazon Prime Day which takes place on Tuesday 12th July. An Amazon spokesperson said, “The contribution of over 2 million small businesses and sellers on Amazon brings vast selection and great prices to Amazon customers around the world.” Beyond the obvious benefit of more traffic to the marketplace, Amazon said Prime Day also helps sellers prepare for the upcoming holiday season by providing feedback and more customer reviews on their new and top selling products. Last Prime Day, Prime members purchased more than 14 million items from sellers and small businesses.
eBay expand Global Shipping Programme: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that eBay are expanding their Global Shipping Programme yet again to add dozens more countries to the list of those that sellers can ship to as easily as if they were selling within the UK. The new countries added are: Antigua & Barbuda; Aruba; Bangladesh; Barbados; Belize; Bermuda; Bolivia; Brunei Darussalam; Cambodia; Cayman Islands; Dominica; Ecuador; Egypt; French Guiana; Gibraltar; Grenada; Guadeloupe; Guernsey; Iceland; Jersey; Jordan; Liechtenstein; Macau; Maldives; Martinique; Monaco; Montserrat; Nicaragua; Oman; Pakistan; Paraguay; Peru; Reunion; Saint Kitts & Nevis; Saint Lucia; Sri Lanka; and Turks & Caicos Islands. Mcommerce UK accounts for €30 billion in 2016: EcommerceNews reports that ecommerce in the UK is set to reach 81 billion euros in 2016, partly due to an impressive growth in smartphone-based buying. Mobile ecommerce is expected to be worth 30 billion euros this year, which is an increase of more than 25 percent compared to last year. The expectations about the ecommerce and mcommerce industry in the United Kingdom come from eMarketer’s latest forecast. The growing ecommerce in the UK would help to offset a decline in traditional retail sales. The total retail industry showed negative growth last year but it’s set to grow by 0.9 percent next year. Commemorative Somme lapel pins being sold on eBay for hundreds of pounds: BBC News reports that special commemorative lapel pins made from Battle of the Somme shells are being traded at more than 10 times the original asking price. The pins were created by the Royal British Legion in honour of the 19,240 men killed in the battle 100 years ago. The legion has sold out of the £39.99 lapel pins. People from Luton, Liverpool, Cornwall are now selling them via eBay. The legion said it wants the listings removed. Continue reading…
Sucking robot arm wins Amazon Picking Challenge: Leo Kelion at BBC News reports that a robotic arm that combines a suction cup, a “two-fingered” gripper and a 3D depth-sensing camera has won Amazon’s latest warehouse bot competition. Team Delft’s machine triumphed over its rivals at both of the two tasks. One involved selecting products from a container, picking them up and putting them on a shelf.
