European ecommerce sales set to reach €500bn in 2016: Chloe Rigby at InternetRetailing reports that ecommerce sales in Europe are set to pass the €500bn (£380.9bn) mark, with a third of all sales coming from UK retailers. The forecast for 2016 comes in the European B2C Ecommerce Report which finds that in the last year online transactions across Europe hit €455.3bn (£346.9bn) in 2015, 13.3% up on the same time last year. The report suggests that an estimated 296m online shoppers hailing from 48 European countries, including 28 that are members of the European Union, each spent an average of €1,540 (£1,173) over the internet last year. Amazon says no to Apple TV: Kieren McCarthy at The Register reports on why Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos continues to say no to Apple TV. Speaking at a conference this week, Bezos said that since Amazon’s video service is not on the Apple hardware, Amazon refuses to stock the puck-like device. Amazon is not on Apple TV due to Apple’s terms, thought to be a 30% cut of any revenue. Continue reading…
Amazon India set to launch Amazon Prime: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that Amazon are set to launch Prime in India, three years after opening for business there. According to reports by maktechblog, Amazon India will offer free two-day delivery on eligible products and the website is ready to launch. Currently, it is not known if Prime members will be able to access Amazon Music and Video yet or how much membership will cost. Continue reading…
Amazon to create 500 jobs in Dublin by 2018: BBC News reports that Amazon is set to create 500 jobs in the Dublin over the next two years. Amazon already employs 1,700 people in Dublin and Cork. The new employees will work across the firm’s businesses, including its online retail arm and its data storage service. Jeff Caselden, general manager for Amazon Ireland, told RTÉ that the company’s decision to continue to invest in the Republic was down to a technically skilled work force and the infrastructure. Device used in Nazi coding machine found for sale on eBay: Damien Gayle and James Meikle at The Guardian report that an eagle-eyed volunteer with the National Museum of Computing (NMC) spotted an ad on eBay this week for an extremely rare, military-issue Lorenz teleprinter.
