China’s Alibaba breaks Singles Day record as sales surge: BBC News reports that Alibaba has broken its own record on China’s Singles Day recording sales worth $14.3bn (£9.4bn), a 60% increase from last year. It took just 12 hours to beat last year’s total sales of $9.3 billion, with an estimated 120,000 orders each minute. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos overtakes Carlos Slim as fourth richest person in the world: Zlata Rodionova at The Independent reports that Jeff Bezos has overtaken Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim to become the world’s fourth richest person in the world, with a net worth of $58.3 billion. Amazon’s shares have buoyed by 113% this year–earning Bezos $29.6 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index. Continue reading…
Outcry over new Amazon return dissatisfaction rate: Ina Steiner at eCommerceBytes reports that Amazon sellers got an unwelcome surprise this week when they discovered new seller performance metrics in their dashboards. The new “Customer Service Dissatisfaction Rate” is the percentage of customers who are not satisfied with a seller’s responses in Buyer-Seller Messaging. Amazon also introduced a new “Return Dissatisfaction Rate” metric, which measures customer satisfaction with how their returns are processed.
Amazon Prime customers in Greater London now get unlimited same-day delivery: Hazel Sheffield at The Independent reports that Amazon is now offering unlimited same-day delivery to Prime customers in London. Orders must be placed before noon for delivery between 6pm and 10pm and there is no minimum order value. The service is available to Prime customers within the M25 and parts of Berkshire and Hertfordshire initially, though Amazon has said it has an eye on expansion in other parts of the UK. Royal Mail and Alibaba deal helps Chinese sellers ship to UK: Dan Wilson at Tamebay reports that Royal Mail and Alibaba are co-operating further to link Chinese exporters directly to UK online shoppers. They already work together because Royal Mail has a shopfront on Alibaba’s Tmall. AliExpress, Alibaba Group’s global retail marketplace for consumers, will offer Chinese exporters new Royal Mail shipping solutions with deliveries within two weeks. Continue reading…
