Showrooming and Amazon best sellers

Shopping habits

Buyers the world over will always seek value for money when purchasing their wares, and nowhere is this more evident than during the practice of showrooming, ‘The practice of visiting a shop or shops in order to examine a product before buying it online at a lower price’. Whilst off-line merchants are fighting back, the advantages of showrooming for online merchants cannot be overstated—the buyer has seen the physical goods prior to buying online, and is simply looking for the best value for money from a trusted online source—and where else will you find that but at Amazon, where millions of online entrepreneurs continue to thrive.

To prove the point, RepricerExpress takes a quick look at some of the hottest items available for less on Amazon (hint: you may want to stock up on a few of these) that Business Insider has recently reported—it’s no surprise that showrooming and Amazon get mentioned in the same sentence a lot!

Women’s Venus Razors

Almost every adult in the world uses razors, and they know that buying them isn’t cheap. Throwaway razors don’t cost much each time, but they do add up over the long-term. It makes more sense to buy a regular razor and get replacement blades, although the sticker price for the latter can hurt quite a bit. A pack of 10 Daisy women’s razors with Venus razors — and free shipping — is currently cheaper than can be found in Walmart, normally one of the best cheap shops around.

Men’s Watches

The matter of whether wristwatches have met their decline with the introduction of the smartphone is largely up for debate (or indeed the Apple Watch), but there’s still a firmly loyal following. Watches aren’t so much a timepiece anymore as they are a style statement, and Amazon is one place where we can see reverse showrooming in action. Buyers can go into a brick-and-mortar shop to see how a Casio Men’s Edifice or G-Shock watch fits, and then return back to Amazon for much lower prices.

DVDs

We already know that you can get most DVDs cheaper on Amazon than you could in an offline store, but the two examples Business Insider lists are X-Men: Days of Future Past and John Wayne: The Epic Collection. The former lists for only $10 compared to $14.99 on iTunes, while the latter goes for just $69 on Amazon and $107.79 in Target.

iPhone/iPod Touch Projector

Using Netflix on an iPhone or iPod Touch is far from ideal: the screen size is really small and the details that get put into TV shows and movies is totally lost (could you imagine watching Gravity on an iPhone and being awestruck by the special effects?) Instead, what some people do is project the images onto a white wall or white screen, and Amazon tends to do it cheaper than most.

Coffee K-Cup Packs

There will always be coffee purists who believe that coffee shouldn’t be had unless the beans are ground right before brewing, but in today’s busy world, the K-Cup reigns strongly. Like the aforementioned razors, they’re not cheap, but buying an 80-pack of San Francisco Bay coffee K-Cups on Amazon can save shoppers about a third of the price they would find in-store.

Baby Wipes

Whether you’ve got children or not, nothing is more versatile than the humble baby wipe for cleaning just about everything—from your hands to the kitchen worktop, however, they’re also a little more expensive than a towel and bar of soap. But thanks to Amazon, consumers can get 648 Huggies Simply Clean Baby Wipes with free shipping for two-thirds of the price it would usually cost at Walmart.

The above items are just a few examples of how shopping on Amazon can be much cheaper than doing it in person. It comes as no surprise to ourselves as we know how many successful Amazon sellers keep their prices competitive—through repricing—which no offline store can match in terms of speed and efficiency. While they have to manually rearrange their pricing signs, all you have to do is input min and max values and let RepricerExpress do the rest. Start your 15-day free trial now to see how your Amazon business can explode.
