Amazon has announced details of its Prime Day which will be a one-day global shopping event on 15 July 2015, the eve of the company’s 20th anniversary. Amazon has said Prime Day will have “more deals than Black Friday” and will be exclusively for Prime members.
On Amazon Prime Day new and existing Prime members will be able to shop for exclusive deals from electronics, toys, video games, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more. Deals will start at midnight BST and there will be new deals starting throughout the day, as often as every ten minutes.
Amazon has said Prime Members will enjoy deals on items perfect for summer adventures, their to-do list, family road trips, back to school supplies, and everyday essentials.
Will third-party sellers be able to participate?
In response to Ina Steiner at eCommerceBytes, an Amazon spokesperson said absolutely, “Many third party retailers using Fulfilment by Amazon are also participating in Prime Day on July 15 offering more deals than ever before. Third party retailers using Fulfilment by Amazon were notified in advance and many will have deals on Prime Day.”
Even if you’re a seller that isn’t offering any Prime Day discounts or promotions, then you’re very likely to benefit from the increase customer traffic to the site like on Black Friday. If Amazon Prime Day grows to the same levels of Black Friday, then that only can be beneficial to Amazon retailers.
What countries are involved?
The Prime Day deals are available to Prime members in the UK, US, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria.
Amazon Prime benefits
Amazon is currently offering Prime at a discounted rate of £59 (usually £79) to UK customers until 8 July 2015.

Will this be an annual event?
An Amazon spokeswoman said the company doesn’t have any future plans to share on whether Prime Day could become an annual event.
Alibaba’s Singles’ Day
Amazon is not the first ecommerce giant to create its own shopping holiday. Alibaba has successfully made November 11/Singles’ Day into a major shopping holiday in China, which grew to surpass Cyber Monday in 2012.
Prime Day Photo Contest
Amazon is also running a photo contest for asking its customers to submit photos that show off Prime’s benefits. One prime account in each Prime country will win a $10,000 Amazon Gift Card. More information on the contest is available on Amazon.
